RC ESC Amp Calculator
Convert a measured continuous current into a target ESC rating with a safety margin.
Current & Margin
e.g. 0.25 = +25% headroom.
Result
Target ESC rating
75A
60.00 A × (1 + 0.25)
A sizing reference from your measured number — not a universal rating rule.
Formula
- 1.
Estimated Target Current Rating = Measured Current × (1 + Margin Fraction)
Worked example
- 1.Inputs: 60 A measured, 0.25 margin.
- 2.Target = 60 × 1.25 = 75 A — pick an ESC rated at or above 75 A.
Assumptions and limits
- KV and voltage alone cannot predict real current — propeller load, cooling and duty matter.
- Always cross-check against the motor and ESC manufacturer specs.

FAQ
Can I size the ESC from KV and voltage?
Not reliably — those do not determine load current. Measure it or use the manufacturer bench figure.
Assumptions
- Measured current comes from a logged run or wattmeter.
- Manufacturer bench data for motor/prop/battery beats any estimate.
